Week One: Monday 3rd August 2009 7.30pm Week one is an evening of stand-up comedy with Joe Bor (MC), Steve Rawlings, Ivan Brackenbury and Dominic Holland. Joe Bor WINNER The Comedy Store Gong Show A sharp and energetic observational comedian, Joe is a rising star of the stand up circuit. He can not only regale with tales of punters he’s met at his gigs and some of the peculiar things that have happened to them, but he can also slip into character with ease to recall some of his observations on the more bizarre stories he’s gathered in life. During his previous work as a classroom assistant, Joe discovered a goldmine of material in the kids that he taught, from their playground insults to their life musings. As well as being a talented stand up, he has also written for TV and theatre as well as putting his acting abilities to the test during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and for the BBC. His chatty, confident and friendly style has seen him perform at The Comedy Store, Comedy Café, Outside the Box and most top comedy clubs up and down the country. He also performs with sketch group ‘The Gadabouts’. “Hugely talented character comic, very funny and memorably charismatic.” The Scotsman “An expert communicator…with his energetic stage presence and natural comic ability, Bor makes for a solidly entertaining act.” Chortle.co.uk Steve Rawlings Steve Rawlings brings an audience to life with his unique blend of comedy character and technical ability. Whether juggling Ping-Pong balls with his mouth, setting his head on fire or flinging blazing torches, furniture, giant cartwheels and tenpin bowling balls in the air, this is an act that demands attention! He has appeared in over 60 television shows and performed all over the world as well as in front of Her Majesty the Queen at a Royal Command Performance. "Hilarious and original, Steve Rawlings' mixture of desperation and downbeat humour steals the show. His balancing a tray of bottles and glasses on his chin while giving a running commentary on his difficulties is a classic piece of comic business. This is knife-edge humour which involves the audience in sympathy for a man flogging himself to death for a laugh, and yet knowing that he is perfectly capable of performing the daring and complicated routines he has set up!" The Stage "A brisk, skilful act that will get your heart in your throat and give you more belly laughs than any comic - and that's a rare treat!" The Sunday Times Ivan Brackenbury Tom Binns is an if.comedy award nominee, sketch writer and comedian. To a growing army of fans he is best known as Ivan Brackenbury, Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Hospital Radio's flagship presenter. Ivan has appeared on Radio 1, Chris Evans' Breakfast Show and TalkSport, winning a Sony award. During 'Disease Hour' the doyen of hospital radio plays screamingly inappropriate tunes, runs competitions and churns out the clichés with unswerving enthusiasm and bundles of misplaced goodwill. Tom's own radio career ground to a sudden halt when his breakfast show on XFM attracted a record fine. Nonetheless he has added Spooks to a list of TV credits including Under the Moon and Knowing Me, Knowing You. He has also written for Lily Savage, Trigger Happy TV and Friday Night Armistice. Dominic Holland Perrier Award-winning Dominic is currently recording 10 x 30 min comedy panel shows for Five entitled What on Earth.
